Oz Outrage! Australians to See New Camaro First - Jalopnik

Before the new Camaro’s US release in 2008, Australians will get a sneak peak at the first production models. In fact, the cars will be cruising Australian highways before the year’s out. Why do the sons of Dundee get preferential treatment over we Yanks of American persuasion? Blame it on GM’s Holden division, which created the General’s new rear-drive platform on which the Camaro (and its own Commodore) is based. The company is turning out several hand-built prototypes, which will hit the roads down under by the end of this year. Though the production Camaro will be built in Canada, and won’t be out for two years, Yozzie and the gang may wind up next to one at a stoplight in Sydney, Brisbane or Port Macquarie (or somewhere else even). Spy photogs, get thee to the Quantas desk. [Thanks to Dave for the tip.] –

Seriously what does it matter if Us Australians get to see the finished product of our newest finest creation, I can’t think of any reason why USA should get the FIRST look at everything that comes out in the world, Just like the Pontiac GTO, No Australian took credit for that even though its EXACTLY the same as a new Holden MONARO (we have had these longer than the life of the newGTO The newer model). http://www.monaro.com.au/intro/featured/nick.htm here look for yourself,
Well anyway i am sick of hearing americans wine about why can’t we see this first or what ever, i think credit is due to us australians…
ugh isnt ths supposed to be an american car? not Australian.
Wow that was a typical response romo!!
Pontiac gto = Holden monaro, new el camino ute = commodore ss ute, pontiac g8 = commodore ss sedan… the chevy SSR got it’s retro styling from the 50’s FJ holden ute… Now Camaro… All developed and made in Australia. Even all america’s top nhra pro mod teams car’s are built here!!
Australia and the US are so much alike in terms of demand for rear wheel drive v8 production cars (aus more so), late 60’s muscle car culture and motorsports among others. The GM partnership between the two countries was bound to happen.
I think it’s great to see that the last two countries with such a spectacular history and passion for true motoring muscle cars are working as one.
I agree with camaroaaron, but don’t forget that just across the border from our American cousins, is Canada where we are just as much into Camaros and rear wheel drive muscle as either the U.S. or Australia, and have a similar history. Given that the Americans and Canadians drive the same cars, and as the Camaro was and will be, some models are built in Canada and some in the U.S. So don’t forget
that us Canucks are on the same page.
