Many people have told me that this doesn’t look as much like the “old Camaro” as the Challenger looks like the “old Challenger”. If you listen to the video interview with Bob Lutz, he states that they were trying to put a more contemporary look on the old design.
What do you think of this idea?
This car looks much more like a Camaro than the challenger looks like its predecessors. Same goes for the GTO, it looks more like some sorry ricer ride than a throwback GTO, it needs to be seriously squared up and bigger overall. And dont think if there is a 07 Camaro released that its going to look as inticeing as the auto show photos. The ONLY company that comes close to the look of its show/proto type models is Toyota. And a prime example of that is the FJ Cruiser. On the other hand the 05 mustang show car Ford brought to auto shows was nothing like the actual production release. I love the 05 and newer mustangs but the show/proto type new generation mustangs looked way hotter. But there is always hope, maybe by some fluke GM will have the rocks necessary to release what todays muscle car fanatics want and not just try to ride the coat tails of the name Camaro. The name Camaro holds alot of power in it through years of true muscle car performance and orginality. Dont screw this one up GM, release a car that is true to the Camaro name and the prototypes that make us all dream.
P.S. Id love to see a black firebird with gold trim too !!!
Who thinks the new challenger looks like the old? Id like to speak to that person. Its nothing more than an Chrysler 300 with a few different lines and gimics. The pictures of the 07 Camaro looks like an older Camaro and it looks like a muscle car. The challeneger looks like a grocery getter PERIOD. Just like the GTO looks like a ricer ride. The new GTO is an insult compaired to the old as far as looks are concerned. There are 2 companys that have put out throw back rides with performance to match looks. # 1 Ofcourse is the 05 Mustang. Ford did an AMAZING job of combining throwback classic looks with 300 hp, about 40 more hp than the 04 Mustang. The new mustang is kind of like a lion, you dont need to defend it just turn it loose it will take care of its self.
And # 2 is the 07 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Well thought out looks along with 4×4 performance that is getting rave reviews from the locking differentials up. And the interior has all the creature comforts needed combined with rugged functionality.
Bob Lutz said that they were trying to put a more contemporary look on the old design? What exactly is a contemporary look anyways Bob? GM needs to quit trying to reinvent the wheel. Just like many auto makers do. They all keep trying to make a new vehicle that will please everyone. News Flash !!! It cant be done. Make a musle car with great looks and performance to match. And please please please quit useing meaningless terms like contemporary design. The name Camaro demands more respect than you are giving it.
PS. Performance means more cubic inches, not blowers or turbo charging.
