Both the Camaro ZL 1 and the new, 2014 Corvette Stingray, are cars that deliver on a promise. That promise is performance. Throughout the approximately four decades that the Camaro and Corvette have been made by Chevrolet concurrently, the company has been very careful to never let the Camaro’s performance and desirability exceed that of the Corvette, its halo car. However, due to some quirk of nature, Chevy finds itself in the odd position of currently offering the 2013 Camaro ZL 1 and the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the same moment in time. Which car is the better sports car?

Hennessey HPE700 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

hennesseyzl12013Some time back we brought you the Hennessey HPE650 and HPE700 Camaro details. Several have now left the production line and we recently found this white one, treated to the HPE700 package. Underneath it is a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Power is now rated at 700bhp at 6300rpm with a top speed of 203mph.

The package includes CNC Ported Cylinder Heads utilizing the HPE Air Induction System. The valvetrain parts are upgraded and also fitted is the custom Hennessey camshaft. Several other upgrades include Hennessey pulley, intercooler heat exchanger upgrade and a fuel system upgrade.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 by Superior Auto Design

superiorzl1A Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was recently treated to a full make over by Florida-based tuner Superior Auto Design. The cosmetics included a set of gloss blue metallic stripes with CF accents that run the entire length of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 body.

Most of the components we see are factory made such as the redesigned fascia and aluminum hood with a raised carbon fiber insert, a front splitter and new vertical fog lamps with air intakes designed for brake cooling. The hood features front-mounted air extractors with the center section made in satin black carbon fiber.

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering ZL1 Camaro Hits 202mph

ligenfelterzl12013The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is not only considered the most technologically advanced Camaro to date, but also the highest-performing production Camaro of all time. Camaro specialists and crate engine builders, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, raced one of their ZL1 Camaros on an 8.5 mile oval track at the Continental tire proving grounds in Uvalde Texas.

The run was completed by David Freiburger from Hot Rod Magazine who recorded a maximum speed of 202.67mph. This was the same ZL1 that was the first to dip into the 10′s in the 1/4-mile. LPE currently offers three packages for the ZL1 Camaro namely the Camaro 378 CID ZL1 Supercharger System Upgrade with 630hp, the Camaro 378 CID ZL1 Supercharger System Upgrade with 650hp and Camaro 378 CID ZL1 Supercharged Engine Package with 700+hp.
