Camaro Pulls Away from Mustang in 2011 Sales

The Ford Mustang was the king of pony-car sales for 24 years, but the arrival of a reborn Camaro at Chevy dealers recently changed the tide, relegating the Blue Oval’s poster child to second place last year. Chevy’s pride and joy is expected to repeat as sales king this year, with Edmunds.com projecting a final 2011 sales tally of approximately 89,000 Camaros, a predicted victory of about 18,000 units over the Mustang.

Chevy brought the Camaro back for the 2010 model year, and it has seen a steady flow of sales ever since. Last year, 81,299 Chevrolet Camaro models found new homes, and 2011 sales have already eclipsed that number, with 81,495 sales through November. If the Edmunds.com sales predictions hold true, the Camaro will have beat the Mustang in 2011 by a larger margin than in 2010, increasing its lead by more than 10,000 units in a year.
